FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will the KWIK AIM damage my hot shoe? No, it will not. The base attaches to the hot shoe in exactly the same manner as an external flash. A tension wheel (some call it a thumb screw) secures the base to the rail.

How do I use the red dot sight when it is mounted on my camera?  Hold your camera a comfortable distance in front of you (some people prefer holding it at full arm’s length; others prefer to hold it closer, and a few even hold it very close to the eye). Then look through the sight and place the red dot on the subject, panning as necessary to maintain the dot on the subject and start snapping.  Most people find it preferable to keep both eyes open but some prefer looking through only one eye...try both methods and use the one you like best.

What does "calibration" (zeroing) mean?  In order to insure that the camera lens is pointing to the subject on which the photographer places the red dot, the sight must be adjusted (calibrated/zeroed) to match what is being seen in the center of the Viewfinder (or LCD). This is a simple process and each KWIK Aim system is shipped with easy-to-follow instructions.

Will I need to re-calibrate each time I attach the KWIK AIM to my camera?   The answer is “no”.  Once it has been calibrated the KWIK Aim will return to “zero” each time it’s mounted on the same camera provided that it is mounted in the same manner each time as detailed in the calibration instructions accompanying each system.  Of course, if mounted on a different camera, the calibration will likely need adjustment. Additionally, if the KWIK Aim is subjected to a significant blow, it would be advisable to check the calibration prior to using it again.

Can I use flash while the KWIK AIM is attached to my hot shoe?   Yes.  The base of the Kwik Aim mount contains a pc connector to which you can attach a synch cord linked to an external flash.

If  I'm using a flash bracket, can I use a flash?
Yes, if your camera has a connection for attaching a synch cord you can attach an external flash.

Will the Kwik Aim work on a video camera?
If your video cam has a standard shoe the Kwik Aim can be connected to the shoe in the same manner as on a still camera.

Will the Kwik Aim deplete my camera's battery?
Definitely not!  The Kwik Aim operates off its own battery.

How long will the battery last?
To check this out, I installed a new battery in a Kwik Aim Standard Model and switched it on; 7 hours later I removed the battery from the Standard Model and installed it in a Max set to full red dot intensity and left it on for an additional 8 hours, at which time the red dot remained bright.  The result is that I know a fresh battery will last at least 15 hours, and probably considerably longer.  We continue to advise keeping a second battery on hand to be on the safe side.
